Week 7 - What a week!

Dear Mum and Dad,

This week was week seven each morning we went swimming. This week Hank was teaching us how to use proper arms and he didn't do this by making us use our fists, index finger, and our OK sign, this made us realize how important a cupped and strong arm is in freestyle. We also learned about swimming with the use of no arms or legs. It made us realize that proper technique is so important. Today we swam blind. First, we counted our strokes, then we had to swim with our eyes closed counting our strokes to see how close we could get to the end.

This week we learned how to use our math sides, we are still working on place value and graphing. We will be starting next week to add using place value. For example

345 + 123 =

300 + 100 = 400

40+20= 60

5+3=8

=468

Writing this week was on reports, the main focus was on paragraphs, punctuation, and using our structured literacy spelling strategies. We wrote on St. Joseph. The kids did an excellent job. Continued work on our paragraphs will be needed.

For Moari we have been learning about how to greet someone.

Yesterday we experienced what it would be like to not have very much food or variety. We handed in our lunches at the start of the day and didn’t get them back until the end of lunch break. All we got to have was two little chunks of bread. For most kids this wasn’t enough, their tummies rumbled and when they found out there would be no spread with them they were not too happy.

We also had St. Patrick's day and Matrix the leprechaun came to play some tricks on us. Some of us were even lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him. A huge thank you to Viv who brought in special four-leaf clover cookies to help us with our luck. Some of the things he did:

  1.  Colored the toilets

  2. Swapped bags’

  3. Water bottles

  4. Put balloons in the class

  5. Messed up the class

Today is an important day as it is St. Joseph's day and he was Jesus’s stepdad. He loved kids and was Mary Mckillops brother. We had a lovely liturgy that father attended. Thank you to all kids who read.

We will have swimming next week and have a library on Monday.
