Week 4 Term 4 2022

Last week was a crazy week with swimming, liturgy, and Mrs D being out with her finger and maths course. - we had the Make the difference swim team come in to work with us, we organised and ran the All Saints/All Souls liturgy, Mrs T and Mrs D had a maths course, some of the crew went to RATs duathlon... This week looks much calmer.

Monday: Teacher Only Day

Tuesday: Library, cooperative games, PAT reading test (please bring you glasses if you have them)

Friday: Kahui Ako Kapa Haka festival (just Ahurei kids)

This week we are going to have a little bit of fun with our writing - we'll see how it turns out. In maths we are looking at using basic facts as a strategy to solve problems (don't forget to check out the slides we made with loads of great basic facts games to play). We're also looking at patterning (algebra) and a little graphing (statistics). We also have a few assessments coming up, too - check out these reminders - they are important.

Reminders

- wear your activity tracker, please (we use data in maths and for the competition)

- charge your Chromebook every night (we use them almost everyday)

- bring your headphones everyday (essential - online assessments coming up)

- bring your reading books everyday (yes, we read everyday even in Year 4!)

- the bell to come in and get organised is at 8:30 and our school day starts at 8:45 (a few kids are arriving at/after 9am and are missing out on a lot of important information that sets the kids up for a successful day)

  Welcome Back! I am very excited to be coming back in 2022, to Room 12. I hope you have all had a great break and are ready to get back into school. A little background into myself for those of you that don't know me. I was born and raised in Alberta Canada. I have been living in New Zealand for 16 years. My three boys and I have been calling Rotorua home for the past 7 years. I love to camp, play all sports and spend time with my boys on our farm. I am looking forward to all the adventures that 2022 will bring. I am a firm believer in reading at home, for the most part, this is the only ask I will have for my students in the form of homework. Reading at home can look different for each person. You could have someone read a book to you, you can listen to audiobooks, read online/device or read to someone else. Week 3 - Term 1 - 2022

  13/02/22 Kia ora, Welcome to week 3! We had a wonderful start to the year last week with students excited to be back. This weekend, it felt like we might be experiencing the first signs of fall with the rain, cooler temps and leaves falling. Let's hope mother nature allows us a little more summer in the weeks to come.  We will be starting some of our required testing this week to give us an indication as to where your tamariki is since the end of last year. We will be starting up with our maths, writing and reading programmes over the week and encourage you to talk to your child about what they have been doing in class. Maths - We will be looking at addition and subtraction. A fun game for the car is to have the kids ask you math questions, sometimes answer correctly sometimes wrong see if they can catch you a point for the person who guesses correctly. start at first with simple questions to 10 5+5=10, 4+3=7, 9-5=4 try and answer as quickly as possible.
